Surrendering Versus Trusting
I admit, I’m a culprit of using the terms “surrender” and “trust” interchangeably. Although there are similarities to both, they do have distinct meanings especially when we’re using the terms in the context of your spiritual path.
What is “trusting” in spirituality?
Trusting involves your intuition. It’s when you hold somewhat of a vision and you hold yourself up to the possibilities of that vision.
The vision is: you know that if you just swim 10 meters ahead, you can reach the treasure because the treasure is tangible.
It’s attainable.
It’s visible.
It’s undeniable.
It’s fathomable.
You know where you need to go. You know the steps you need to take to get there.
The vision comes with a plan to execute and you believe you can accomplish it. That is trusting.
What is “surrendering” in spirituality?
Surrendering is like willingly submerging yourself into deep, dark waters. Not knowing what’s around or what’s ahead of you. It’s like wintering without relying on the promise of a spring arrival.
You surrender to what you don't know.
What you can't see.
What you can't predict.
What you can't control.
You’re acting purely on sheer faith that somehow the universe will provide.
Somehow you’ve got this without being given a flashlight, a map or a paved path. That is surrendering.
