Is a Snake Biting Dream Good or Bad?

Snake or Serpent Symbolism in Dreams

Sometimes we think that dreams are only important or profound when they have a full storyline or when they seem "long" in time length. That's absolutely not the case!

This dream I'm sharing today was literally 2 scenes: I opened a door and noticed a rattle snake (scene 1) and then I went to bed where the snake followed (scene 2). Short dream and yet there was a lot to pick up from here.

Snakes are usually seen as symbolizing others in your life. We think of them as "poisonous," "toxic," and "venomous" so on one hand, maybe your dream snake represents someone's behaviors that aren't for your highest good.

But snake venom is also used as medicine in many indigenous cultures. There's even (controversial, debated) history behind the medical symbol of caduceus, with the short staff entwined by two serpents. So snakes could symbolize good health and well-being.

Interpreting Snake and Serpent Dream Symbols

To interpret dreams, we lean into what we're feeling throughout the dream, what we pick up on and our sense of knowing. The environment of a dream can look scary and yet you feel a sense of calm and safety. That’s incredibly telling!

What I felt during the dream:

  • Initially scared of the snake and of course freaked out that it bit me, but eventually allowed it to continue

  • The bite DID NOT feel painful…I’ve felt pain in dreams and this wasn’t painful at all

  • It seemed to me that the snake was drawing something out of me and not necessarily draining my blood out of thirst for my energy or because it wanted to feed on me

What’s even more interesting is that my zodiac sign is the Earth Snake and the year after this dream, 2025, will be Year of the Wood Snake. When a year falls under the zodiac sign we’re born under, while the collective will feel the energy of the sign throughout the year, it’s recommended that those who represent the signs maintain a low profile as usually the year will involve internal/external changes and shifts!

Additionally, in mid-2024 and into 2025, the eclipses will fall upon a Pisces-Virgo nodal axis and I have a lot of Pisces placements. Of the many things that fall under Piscean energy, healing is one of the biggest aspects. Although eclipse series typically happens in pairs for 18 months, we feel and continue integrating the energy of the eclipses for up to five years total.

Could this dream be foretelling of what’s to come in the next 2-5 years: energetic shifts and healing? I believe it! At a micro level, I was actually experiencing physical symptoms as a result of acclimating to a new supplement. It resonates with me at this time that this dream symbolized a minor health challenge I have overcome. (No more symptoms as of this blog getting published!)

Going back to some of the common things that snakes and serpents represents, it’s easy to initially assume that it’s a bad omen that a snake bites us in a dream. Again, this is why it’s important to consider and prioritize what you actually felt during the dream over the many different interpretations that exist in the ethers.
