8 Types of Dreams You Should Be Journaling About

Not sure which dreams are worth documenting or analyzing? These are the common types of dreams I frequently hear about when others have shared theirs with me or ones that I've dreamed about that I often find messages and meaning in.

There are multiple ways of interpreting dreams and getting a sense of the "type" of the dream is a good start. Which of these dreams types have you been having lately?

Vivid Dreams

A unique state where it feels like the experience is happening in real life. Usually seen in color.

Can be multisensory and engaging to the point where touch, taste, sound and smell feels incredibly real.

Can involve a realistic or fantastical plot or storyline.

Past Life Dreams

A unique state where memories of past lives manifest as recurring dreams and nightmares. Usually focuses around a historic period where you are in the role of someone else.

Can act like pillars that guide you in your future or current life so that you don’t repeat the same mistakes all over again or so that you can heal old, unexplainable wounds.

Visitation Dreams

A unique state with intense emotions where a loved one who has passed returns to provide assurance or guidance. It’s a visit from the other side.

Can be helpful for coping with grief, sorrow and loss.

Prophetic Dreams

A unique state where you have an experience that has yet to happen in our current realm of existence, but later happens.

Involves seeing images, symbols or events surrounding the future. It is foretelling.

Lucid Dreams

A unique state where a person becomes aware that they are dreaming and can sometimes manipulate their dreams.

You’re able to recognize your thoughts and emotions as the dream happens. Logic is key to lucidity.

Guidance Dreams

These types of dreams are meant to communicate something that you’ll become aware of in your present life in due timing.

These dreams offer a collaborative approach to receiving guidance from the other side or your spirit team. Whatever symbols or messages you receive are meant to assist you on your journey of life.

Soul Connection Dreams

One of the most common dreams you can have, soul connection dreams are ones where you interact with or meet with someone, or maybe several people, you have a soul connection with.

Soul connections vary by each person. Your relationship with that person involves a soul contract to be fulfilled in this lifetime. Examples: karmic connections, soul mates, twin flames, soul family and your spirit team.

Being in the dream realm with your soul connections help you learn about them and their current lives, perhaps a past life you shared with them, or as a message to you.

Trauma-Focused Dreams

Most often referred to as a “flashback,” “nightmare,” or “distressing dream” where the premise of the story focuses on re-experiencing your traumatic incidents. These types of dreams are one of the most common symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Having trauma-focused dreams are indicative of what still needs to be addressed and healed in your life such as triggers or wounds related to your lived experiences.

If you’re constantly experiencing these types of dreams or suspect that you may have post-traumatic stress, reach out to a professional for support.
