WHY I DECIDED TO TRY THE GIOVANNI COSMETICS ECO CHIC PRODUCT LINE FOR MY CURLY HAIR
I picked up the Giovanni Cosmetics Eco Chic Strong Hold Gel based on various online recommendations since it’s a curly girl method friendly product. I have a secret love affair with mousse, so I thought I’d try Giovanni’s Natural Mousse Styling Foam too.
The Eco Chic Hair Care system is meant for individuals who view their hair as an accessory. You’ll find fashion in a bottle, tube or jar when you use the Eco Chic collection to set the tone for your look, and define your individual style. What’s even better is that this product line is free of parabens, lauryl or laureth sulfate, dyes, animal by-products and animal cruelty. Although the entire line is not free of silicone, both the gel and mousse don’t contain this ingredient.
After using both the gel and mousse for the last month and a half, I thought I’d share some insight.
ECO CHIC L.A. NATURAL STYLING GEL
When I first used the L.A. Natural Styling Gel, I did a co-wash using the Carol’s Daughter Nourishing and Conditioning Cleansing Co-Wash Conditioner then applied the gel and diffused on warm heat, very similar to what I’ve learned to do from previous successes learned during month three of my curly hair journey. On that first day, I felt like my hair felt very dry. I even saw the dryness in the palm of my hands from product application. Despite all this, the gel worked well to give my fine hair super strong hold! I should also note that on this first day, it was a rainy day with hail! I ran in the hail and yet my hair was still intact. No frizz and no loss of curl formation. What a miracle!
MY STYLING TIP
Because of the stiffness from the gel, I highly recommend to scrunch out the crunch with an oil to not only soften the hold, but also to add more luster. Two ways you can style curly hair using this gel: either diffuse on low, warm heat for bouncy curls OR air dry & scrunch out hair for loose mermaid hair-like waves.
THIS GEL ABSOLUTELY LIVES UP TO ITS NAME
When I first used this, including on my refresh day, my curls maintained their texture throughout the day, which is usually never the case because my hair is fine. It just so happened to be that I’ve been mostly using the gel during a rainy stint in SoCal and even after walking in the rain (specks of hail, to be exact), my hair didn’t frizz up!
PRICE POINT IS ON HIGHER END
Depending on how much you typically have to use for your hair type, you may have to use a lot of product and if that’s the case, this gel might not be for your budget as the bottle is priced at $9/6.8oz.
CURLY GIRL METHOD FRIENDLY
If you’re very adamant about living the CGM lifestyle, this product has curly hair friendly ingredients. Only catch is that this product is promoted to be used by all hair types and is not specifically formulated for curly hair.

GIOVANNI COSMETICS STYLING FOAM MOUSSE
My hair was spectacularly super fluffy when I began incorporating the Giovanni Cosmetics Eco Chic Styling Foam Mousse into my styling routine. In the most random experiment ever, I decided to test out what would happen to my curls if I did wash day at night before sleeping (without using a styling product, just leave-in conditioner), then refresh my hair with mousse every day after. Interestingly, I found that my curls did hold their texture AND my hair had luster to it! I’m not entirely sure why this was the case, but I assume that the leave-in helped manage the frizz from day (or night) one. I tried mixing other products with the mousse, but find that scrunching it out with oil was the best route. Lately, I’ve been using SheaMoisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Complex as my go-to. It smells bright and lovely too!
MY STYLING TIP
For the most fuss-free styling routine, apply the styling foam into your hair, scrunch hair up with a t-shirt to encourage the curl, decrease drying time and reduce frizz, then allow hair to air dry!
If you’re looking for a styling foam that gives a ton of texture with the softest hold, this mousse will live up to the standard. There is zero feeling of “crunch” with this product in my hair. It’s so lightweight, it almost looks like I’m not even using anything for styling!
LOTS OF PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE
The Styling Foam is at a fair, mid-price point for the bottle size and amount of product you get. I find that with mousse you can either choose to use a lot or a little and still achieve stellar results.
CURLY GIRL METHOD FRIENDLY
Just like the gel, the styling foam does not contain ingredients that aren’t toxic to curls and is claimed to be at least 95% natural or organic. If you have fine, curly hair ranging from 2a – 3a, this product would be a great addition to your beauty cabinet.
