Favorite Photoshoot Locations In Pasadena, California

As some of you may know, I fell in love with the city of Pasadena during my last relationship. At that time, I was living in Orange County and dreamt of moving to Los Angeles (since my younger years, in fact), but could never decide on where. Throughout that relationship, I spent a lot of my time and effort exploring Pasadena just to kill time. He worked many hours, most of which were in the daytime, both weekdays and weekends, and so, while waiting for him to come home, you could find me wandering around Pasadena aimlessly.

Being in love opened my eyes to the beauty of this city. It’s constant reminder that we must stop to smell each rose (you won’t drive on a street without passing by a bush or two). The architecture that adds an abundance of charm throughout. The quaint culture of arts, food, music and more that brings its community together. All these elements and more are what enlightened me on the type of city I want to work and live in.

After three years of consistently visiting and lodging in Pasadena, I realized that THIS CITY was the one I would move to, to make my childhood dream of living in Los Angeles come true. While it is not technically Los Angeles and sometimes feels like its own separate world from the greater county, Pasadena is accessible to many other parts of Los Angeles that I love just as much (more on that later).

I moved here in fall of 2015 leaving behind Orange County and that particular relationship, and have not once regretted those decisions. Today, I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite places to visit and photoshoot locations around the city…

PASADENA CITY HALL

Favorite Photoshoot Locations In Pasadena, California

There are many parts to the area of Pasadena City Hall that make it wonderfully scenic and perfect for photoshoots (dozens of wedding, engagement and quinceañera sessions take place here). I adore watching others partake in photography sessions, especially when it involves newlyweds, but one thing I do not see many people doing so often around this area is picnicking on the lawn.

There are a couple of grassy areas that lend shade and a full frontal view to the majestic building, which was designed based on Mediterranean Revival Style and Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture.

Address: 100 Garfield Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101
Best Visitation Hours:
The hall is practically available for public visitation from dusk ’til dawn, but expect heavy traffic on weekends when other groups are attempting to shoot photos.

COLORADO BOULEVARD USPS OFFICE

Favorite Photoshoot Locations In Pasadena, California

As a fan of stationery, it is a treat to find an excuse to visit Pasadena’s main United States Postal Service office just down the street from City Hall. What is particularly special about this location is how incredibly ornate the exterior and interior details are. On gloomy days or when the sun is not too high, the office’s stairs is a good place to take a break from exploring Old Town Pasadena.

Address: 281 East Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91101
Best Visitation Hours: The office is open during normal business hours on most days, including Saturdays, for those who are interested in taking a peek inside. There is typically not a lot of traffic at this post office.

EUCLID AVENUE NEAR PASADENA CITY HALL

Favorite Photoshoot Locations In Pasadena, California

Another fun spot for photos that is, again, just walking distance within Pasadena City Hall itself, is the crossing street between City Hall and the All Saints Episcopal Church. For those of you who dream of a photographic rendition of The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” album art cover, this is the perfect street to get that shot!

Address: 80-132 North Euclid Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101 (Please note, this is not an exact address, but an estimation that will guide you to the precise location)
Best Visitation Hours: Would suggest avoiding this area during peak commute hours such as 7:30-9:30am, 11:30am-1:00pm and 4:30-6:00pm.

ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Favorite Photoshoot Locations In Pasadena, California

If you are already on your way leaving City Hall towards Euclid Avenue, it would not hurt to visit the beautiful All Saints Episcopal Church across the street. The brown double doors give this section an overwhelmingly European feel. If you are curious enough, you will find many other admirable photographic spots around the church.

Address: 132 North Euclid Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101
Best Visitation Hours: As a courtesy to church attendees and its staff, it would be best to not disturb the area during service hours. Further information can be found on their website.

BLUE DOOR #78 ON MARENGO AVENUE

Favorite Photoshoot Locations In Pasadena, California

THERE IS SOMETHING SUBTLY HAUNTING AND YET STRIKINGLY FASCINATING about this abandoned building just one block down from Pasadena City Hall. Perhaps it is how dark and empty the vacant rooms look against the bright blue doors and window panes. Either way, the thrill and mystery of this place enhances its viability as a potential outdoor photography venue.

Address: 78 Marengo Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101
Best Visitation Hours:
Since this building is not occupied, there is less likely to be foot traffic in its vicinity at all times.
