It seems lately there have been throwbacks on SCL, first with the reintroduction of Massimo Siragusa’s photography and today, with artist Anna Sims King.

Previously, we’ve taken a look at her GoldieBlocks collection, a garden of paintings featuring some of the most beloved flowers such as daffodils, hyacinths, roses, peonies and irises. The collection also included sailboats and female figures. Most notably were the titles of each piece.

Over this summer, I revisited her website to find a new collection, titled “Continuos Line Drawings”, that just so happened to fit the style of art I have been drawn to lately. At the time, I had been helping my very close college friend, Jane, with deciding which works of art she would use to decorate her beau’s newly acquired home.  Had realized that my own bungalow’s walls were incredibly bare for someone who is an art enthusiast, with the exception of the Los Angeles print hanging on the firewall. Since then, have been dreaming up what my own art wall would be and what type of art I aspire to collect. Figure paintings and drawings being one type, was thrilled to be inspired by Anna’s collection.

What I love most about these pieces are that they are inviting yet solemn. Abstract & quiet. You can immediately tell what it is without having to see the whole, or seeing it complete. Favorite pieces include Vanity Rouge and Nothing to Wear, which perfectly captures the mood of wanting to be bare and using indecisiveness as an excuse to be free…
